In addition to becoming an Open Water Scuba Instructor, you will want to earn some Specialty Instructor ratings so that you can offer a variety of training to your student divers, and make yourself more employable. Specialty Instructor courses provide valuable teaching tips for meeting the requirements of the course. Attending Specialty Instructor Training courses is also a good way to extend your knowledge and skills base as a professional diver and will prepare you fully to start teaching Advanced Open Water courses. Having five specialty instructor ratings is a prerequisite for the Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) rating.
After successfully completing the PADI IE, you will only be qualified to teach thirteen Adventure Dive options during your PADI Advanced Open Water Courses. Gaining Specialty Instructor ratings is a great way to be able to offer more variety to your students for the AOW course. If you are a Specialty Instructor in certain areas - such as Nitrox, AWARE Shark Conservation, Dive Against Debris, Delayed SMB - then you can also add these as Adventure Dive options for all your Advanced Open Water students in the future.
You can choose which Specialty Instructor ratings you’d like to be able to teach from the list below:
